About Essex County Painters

Essex County Painters is a group of artist who enjoy painting outdoors, or as the French say, En Plein Aire. The history of artists painting in Essex County, Massachusetts includes Martin Johnson Heade, Emile Gruppe, Paul Strisik and other well known artists. We are able to visit and paint in the same inspiring locations as these artists. We still see georgeous sunrises over hay stacks, fishing boats returning to the docks in the late afternoon and snow clinging to the pine trees bordering the marshes.

From the sunrise over Plum Island Sound, to the moonrise over the Basiliere Bridge in Haverhill, from a saltmarsh in Ipswich, a sunny filled day on Cranes Beach, and east to the lobster boats of Gloucester - here in Essex County we are surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty.

The Essex County Painters mission is to capture these scenes on our canvases for others to enjoy.
